Characteristics of Modern architecture
- the notion that "Form follows function", a dictum originally expressed by Frank Lloyd Wright's early mentor Louis Sullivan, meaning that the result of design should derive directly from its purpose
- simplicity and clarity of forms and elimination of "unnecessary detail"
- visual expression of structure (as opposed to the hiding of structural elements)
- the related concept of "Truth to materials", meaning that the true nature or natural appearance of a material ought to be seen rather than concealed or altered to represent something else
- use of industrially-produced materials; adoption of the machine aesthetic
- particularly in International Style modernism, a visual emphasis on horizontal and vertical lines
MIFF (Manila film center)
International buildings as I understood it is simple and doesnt have that much of a detail and here at the MIFF the simplicity can easily be seen and probably function was the main priority.
with its large windows and columanded /multiple columns/ foundations with a wide steps stairs ready for multiple or plenty audience and a ramp for cars. PICC(Philippine International Convention Center)
Location: Pasay City
Architect: Leandro Locsin
Folk Arts Theater
Architect/designer: Leandro V. Locsin in 1974.CCP(Cultural Center of the Philippines)
Architect: Leandro V. Locsin
BSP(Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas)
WHO(World Health Organization)
most international/modern architecture seems to have the same design the consecutive window openings a boz like/ typical sqaure and rectangle shaped structure with flat roofs or probably because I took a picture of structures of the the same architect Leandro Locsin. :)
still architecture doesnt mean beauty but also its function maybe its beauty is inside not on the outside cause we shouldnt judge a book by its cover right?:D
PS:please look at my old blog post. I Know its late but I'd rather have a low grade than no grade at all. please and thank you
