Bahay Nakpil

I have to admit Ive been an Irresponsible student. I went to Bahay nakpil on my only free day which was yesterday but unfortunately the museum is close during mondays. So we knocked (my mom and I) asked for permission and was luckily granted except for I wasnt able to take pictures of each room.

Short History(source:http://bahaynakpil.org/home/)

BAHAY NAKPIL-BAUTISTA, an architecturally significant historical Philippine site, stands at the heart of Quiapo, Manila on a colonial era street now named after its famous resident, Dr. Ariston Bautista, who built this house with his wife Petrona Nakpil in 1914 on the site of a previous Nakpil house

bahay nakpil has maintained its beauty over time while the structures near them didnt. We've managed to take a small time of the kids living there(or the caretakers of the house) they said it took them a lot of courage(well probably because they said they saw ghosts in the area) and effort to maintain its beauty. Maintenance is important since an architectural structure like this  reminds us on how Spaniards influenced Filipinos and a good example on how architecture evolved through time from a simple dwelling to spanish type house to todays modern minimalist houses.

Gothic Architecture

"Gothic Architecture was known as during that period "french style"  and latter  part of Renaissance period was called "gothic". Its characteristics is features include Flying buttresses, pointed arch and ribbed vault"

Basilica of San Sebastian

Is also known as San Sebastian Church is located at Plaza Del camrmen At eastern end of Claro M. Recto st. Quiapo Manila, Philippines is a revival of a Gothic Architecture in the Philippines and IS the ONLY  "ALL STEEL" basilica

Short History

In 1621, Don Bernardino Castillo, a generous patron and a devotee of the Christian martyr Saint Sebastian, donated the land upon which the church stands now. The original church, made of wood, burned in 1651 during a Chinese uprising. The succeeding structures, which were built of brick, were destroyed by fire and earthquakes in 1859, 1863, and 1880.
In the 1880s, Estebán Martínez, the parish priest of the ruined church, approached the Spanisharchitect, Genaro Palacios, with a plan to build a fire and earthquake-resistant structure made entirely of steel. Palacios completed a design that fused Earthquake Baroque with the Neo-Gothic style. His final design was said to have been inspired by the famed Gothic Burgos Cathedral in Burgos, Spain.

Gothic Characteristics of San Sebastian

Spire

Lancet Arch or Openings

Stained Glass

Rose Window

Depressed Arch

Paintings on Walls and Ceilings

The Front Altar
The altar have a Gothic touch in it. It looks like a mini version or altar version of the San Sebastian Basilica

The confession Booth

There are things I cant seem to relate or maybe is at the tip of my tongue that I know I somehow its design is related to gothic Architecture

San Sebastian is truly an example of gothic architecture from its exterior to its interior design. Architecture has thought me the importance of valuing such structure, thinking that it was built before my birth.
